Overview
As one of my first projects on the team at Amazon, I was tasked with designing and shipping the Alexa Calendar Widget, now available for all Alexa Mobile users on iOS and Android platforms.
Opportunity Area
New feature, Calendar, was recently launched for all Alexa users. This increased productivity and improved the value of Alexa and Alexa Mobile to customers. This created an opportunity to improve this new function and create more opportunities for users to rely on this feature by making it available directly on their mobile devices.
Widget Design
I worked to balance the importance of simplicity and functionality for users in order to create a widget design that can further enable users to utilize this new feature for Alexa. There are slight differences between the Android and iOS widgets, customized to fit current capabilities of widgets for each operating system. This widget increased interactions and usage of the in-app Calendar feature for Alexa users and increased productivity for users.
Review
I presented my work in app crits, and once I incorporated feedback from other designers, I shared out the design specs to developers and key stakeholders, with a tight timeline to push the widget out by early Q1. Total time from initial conversations with product on requirements to when the widget was shipped took less than 2 months.
I worked closely with QA teams to make sure the builds followed correct design specs and guidelines to ensure quality customer experiences for this new release.
